The big news today was that we finally got planting. Lynn got the first and second early potatoes in along with a row of second early/main crop and then prepped a row for main crop.
Meanwhile, I finalised the plot for the large sweet corn (which is now sprouting in the propagator) and did secondary work on the plot for the mini sweet corn.
Lynn had a great idea for a scented “gateway” into the centre of the plot, with a couple of stands of sweet peas, if we then under plant with other flowers, then we could have a stock of fresh flowers for the summer as well. We also started the first rough prep of this bit of the plot.
During the week I got an e-mail from Cookham Parish Council today telling me off about the “pile of soil waste” aka our fledgling compost heap that was outside the plot, so I duly re-located it inside the plot as demanded.
We had our first picnic on site with pork pies, pain au chocolat and bottles of drink. Even though it was a fairly cool day today, we still needed to drink a lot. It will be cold bags and plenty of fluid once the weather gets warmer. Having spent about four hours on the plot, it was then cold beer and a hot bath at home. Doing something physical is really satisfying, but our office bound bodies are not that used to it yet.
